Excursions
to Troodos
Troodos
– Kykko Monastery
This
tour takes you right to the heart of Cyprus, driving through a number of
traditional mountain villages where life goes on as it has done for years.
Passing just below mount Olympus, the highest point on the island, we stop at
Kykko Monastery, the largest and most famous monastery in Cyprus. Founded in
1092 by the Byzantines, this impressive building, set among the pine trees of
Troodos, is where Archbishop Makarios, the first President of Cyprus, trained
as a novice. A visit to his tomb, just above at Throni Peak, is next on the
agenda. On the return journey back down the mountainside we will visit the
Byzantine church of St. Nicholas af the Roof, built in the 11th
century, and entirely painted with frescoes.
Note:
During
winter Kykko monastery is visited weather permitting, otherwise another
monastery will be visited. Visitors to all monasteries are requested to dress
properly.

Troodos
Our
first stop will be at Lythrodontas village square for coffee and
then we head to Pera Orinis, a small village forgotten by time.
There you will have time to walk around the narrow streets and
explore the village. Locals are very warm and hospitable and an
invitation to see a house is probable. Driving through beautiful
countryside will bring us to Fikardou village, with a population
of 6, a village deserted at the verge of the 19th
century and has remained untouched, as it was, about 100 years
ago. This village has undergone an intricate restoration which
brought the Europa Unsesco. There we will stop for lunch at a
typical restaurant where the food is traditional with pure
ingredients. Our last stop will be at Agros where we visit a rose
water distillery. After a coffee break we head back to your
hotels.
Note:
Lunch
is included in the excursion price.
